"Dune" was released in North America on the 22nd and earned $4.1 million (about 46.9 billion won) in opening revenue, the highest opening ever among director Denny Bilneuve's films.
According to the North American movie site Box Office imitation tally, 22% of Dun's North American opening revenue was from IMAX, the highest IMAX box office success since the global pandemic of COVID-19. Thanks to these box office hit, worldwide box office profits, including $1.18 billion (about 1.38 trillion won), recorded $2207 million (about 258 billion won).
It was also released in Korea on the 20th and attracted 412,892 audiences by today (26). It is the second-highest record among Warner Bros movies released after COVID-19, following "Tenet," and is the sixth opening record for foreign currency released in 2021.
In particular, within the first week of its release, it surpassed the final number of audiences (321,424) of the director's previous film "Blade Runner 2049," and is expected to soon surpass the highest record of "Contact" (634,150).
With favorable reviews and box office records for "Dune," the film is certain to produce two films, and it is expected to enter the pre-production stage and start filming the second film in the fall of 2022.
