On the 21st, Netflix announced the results of the first quarter of this year and the performance of the Korean space science fiction 'Space Sweepers' which was released on February 5th.
'Space Sweepers' is the story of the crew of the space garbage cleaner space sweepers who discovered a weapon of mass destruction in the near future, jumping into a dangerous transaction, and attracted attention as a 20 billion won space blockbuster film, the first attempt in Korea.
Song Joong-ki, Kim Tae-ri, Jin Sun-gyu, and Hae-Jin Hae-Jin, starring Korean sci-fi movie 'Space Sweepers' has been viewed by 26 million households around the world for 28 days since it was released on February 5, and Netflix's 'Top 10 of the Day' in about 80 countries.
According to the announcement on the day, Netflix sales in the first quarter were $7.16 billion (about 8.8 trillion won), up 24% from the same period last year. The operating profit is $1.96 billion (about 2,189.3 billion won) and the operating margin is 27.4%.
As of the quarter, the number of paid subscribers worldwide increased from 195 million in the fourth quarter of last year to 280 million in the first quarter of this year. As of the end of last year, there were 3.8 million paid subscribers in Korea.
Netflix is planning to invest about 550 billion won this year in the Korean creative ecosystem to produce original works of various genres such as action, thriller, science fiction, stand-up comedy, and sitcom.
