After three years of pandemic-related setbacks, the Melon Music Awards are returning offline, according to Kakao Entertainment, which runs Melon, the nation’s largest music streaming platform.
The Melon Music Awards started as an online event in 2005 and switched to both an offline and online event from 2009. The award ceremony was only held online in 2020 and 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
This year’s awards ceremony will feature K-pop stars who have landed on the Melon charts and indie artists introduced through “Track Zero,” an indie discovery project.
This award ceremony will bring together Melon and Kakao in order to bring artists and fans alike to enjoy the festival. Kakao CEO Lee Jae Wook stated, “We will take charge of the end of the year by making a festival venue where all the stakeholders in the music industry can shine and harmonize together”.
